Sky Meadows State Park If you need to just get out of town for some fresh air to avoid the museum and Sky Line Drive crowds take the scenic route out Rt. 50 through Middleburg to the park in Paris, Va. Interpretive Programs: Offered April through October. Mount Bleak House tours, crafts demonstrations, nature walks, evening programs, bird walks, historic demonstrations, monthly astronomy, and children's history and nature programs Tips All year long hiking is available. Short hikes are available throughout the park and for the hard core access to the Appalachian Trail. Bring a picnic lunch/dinner to eat on a blanket or on a picnic table. Depending on your Little’s age and interests try to match up to an event to keep them entertained. Avoid traffic and don’t go out that way during the Gold Cup horse races. Winter Spring and Summer Fall Astronomy Program – viewing is better on cool clear nights. During the Fall months it gets darker sooner so you can start that hour long drive back sooner and get home at bed time. But bring layers. It can get quite cold in the mountains. There are lots of opportunity to see through large telescopes and learn from astronomers from NASA, the Smithsonian, and the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club. Related Resources The park WEB site is very good and has all pertinent information and a current list of activities. http://www.dcr.state.va.us/parks/skymeado.htm Sky Meadows State Park, (540) 592-3556 |
